For 13 years the Provincetown Jazz Festi- val has presented jazz musicians from around the world. Performing in Provincetown this year will be Cassandre McKinley, an Assistant Professor in the Voice Department at the Berklee College of Music. She is best known for her voluminous voice, spirited emotional performances and a presence on stage that is exuberant and passionate, yet warm and disarming. Opening the concert and appear- ing with Cassandre will be Myanna, one of the hottest and most soulful saxophon- ists around. She plays music that mixes jazz improvisation with funky rhythms. Myanna has won best jazz artist awards several times from both the Boston Music Awards and the Boston Phoenix. They will be accompanied by Fred Boyle on piano, Ron Ormsby on bass and Bart Weisman on drums. Appearing in Cotuit, Tim Ray is best known as the long-time pianist for Lyle Lovett and has appeared on over 75 re- cordings including his just released Trio CD "Windows". Tim has performed with Tony Bennett, Aretha Franklin, Bonnie Raitt, Gary Burton, Esperanza Spalding, Phil Woods, Scott Hamilton, The Boston Pops, and many more. The Tim Ray Trio will include John Lockwood on bass and Mark Walker on drums. All three are on the faculty of the Berklee College of Music. The same night in Cotuit, Daryl Sherman, vocals & piano, will grace the stage. She has been part of the New York City jazz scene since the mid 1970's. In addition to jazz clubs and her re- nowned 14 year run at the Waldorf-Astoria, where she played Cole Porter's Steinway, Daryl has performed with the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra and numerous jazz legends. The New York Times says she is "Impeccable, delightful, swinging, a signature jazz sound, a stylistic compendium of Billie Holiday and Blossom Dearie." Daryl will be accompanied by Bruce Abbott on sax, Ron Ormsby on bass, and Bart Weisman on drums.
