www.summerguidecapecod.com 36 BestBikePathsonCapeCod by Harrison Friedman Cape Cod is a major destination for thousands of people every year. Here on the cape, there is something for everyone. Sit back and relax while soaking up the sun on one of our many famous beaches or enjoy fresh and unique seafood cuisine from our exquisite restaurants. Cape Cod also offers the perfect, almost idyllic, setting for cycling enthusiasts from all over. Here are a few of those amazing trails that you can travel yourself or with family and friends. If you arrived on Cape Cod by driving over one of our iconic bridges that connect the cape to the mainland, then you have already seen our first bike trail. TheCape CodCanalBikeway is an excellent destination for anyone. Bike paths run along the canal on both the cape side and the mainland side of the man-made passageway. On the cape-side path, you can start from the Sagamore Bridge and follow the 6.8-mile trail that leads into Bourne, or you can go to the off-cape side and pedal from Scusset Beach to Buzzards Bay, which spans about 7 miles. Along the paths, there are multiple places where you can stop and take in the beautiful canal while waving hello to the never-ending passing ships and boats. The canal is known for its amazing panoramic views and its smooth paved pathways that provide an excellent trail for families and beginners. The next trail will take us to the tip of Cape Cod. This paved trail will bring you through the sandy dunes of Provincetown while taking you from Herring Cove to Race Point. The beginning ofTheProvince LandsBikePath can be found in the Province Lands Visitor Center and is roughly 7.2 miles long. It offers a challenging journey to cyclists who enter with its hilly terrain and sand being blown onto the path by the wind. You will be cycling over different terrains so bikes with wider tires may be necessary. While this trail offers a challenge, it also provides you with some of the most scenic views of Cape Cod. The winding trails will take you through sandy dunes, marshes, cranberry bogs, a few saltwater ponds, and the shady Beech Forest.
