Heritage opens its season with a special ex- hibit, "Let's Play! New England Toy Stories." What do Monopoly, Erector Sets, and corn husk dolls have in common? They were all produced here in New England. We New Englanders love our toys. Come find your favorite New England- made toys and games and learn the fascinat- ing—and sometimes surprising—stories about the people who brought them to life. This ex- hibition is a play room, time capsule, and a his- tory lesson all in one! This exhibit will run until October 12. Car enthusiasts will enjoy the "From Car- riage to Classic: How Automobiles Transformed America" exhibit, where Heritage presents the origin story of the American automobile through cars from their permanent collection. Newly on display for 2020 are thirteen automo- biles – including the recently reactivated 1931 Ford Model A Deluxe Phaeton - along with a dozen old favorites, including Gary Cooper's show-stopping 1930 Duesenberg. This ex- hibit answers questions like, "How did the car emerge as a transformative cultural force of the twentieth century? What were early automo- biles like? Why did gasoline become the fuel of choice? What ever happened to steam engines? How did the car change the daily lives of or- dinary families?" Come along for a ride from the late 1800s to the early 1960s and watch the car evolve from a horseless carriage to a stream- lined symbol of freedom and independence. This exhibit will run until October 12. Visitors will appreciate a new look in the permanent collection in "The Heritage Collec- tion," which demonstrates the excellence and ingenuity of American craftsmen. On display are selections from the museum's 16,500-piece col- lection of American art and artifacts. Highlights on exhibit for 2020 include jewelry created by internationally known artist Hazel Blake French, who made jewelry from glass salvaged from the Sandwich Glass Factory. Also on display will be never-before-exhibited letters, photos, training manuals, and awards from the collection of
